What should we as Music Producers be doing?

Recently, the following question was submitted:

"What should we as Music Producers be doing at this point and time in the game to get more of our music out to major artist a the top of their game?"

Answer:

· Make more tracks with Hook/Chorus ideas and/or melodies.

· Do some great tracks for somebody without a deal...but SURELY on their way to getting a deal

· Collaborate with select local artists (and online)...and not just everyone with a dollar.

· Build a great name for yourself by making GREAT music.... and then getting your music production "sound" exposed to as many industry people & talent as possible.

As far as getting heard by major artists; network at the places these artists are, and with the people "tied" to the artists. Actually, I believe in "paying dues" by making a rep for yourself first, and then people in the industry will FIND YOU....and opportunities will present themselves to you. The bottom line is that someone tied to the artist, or the actual artist himself or herself will need to hear something that THEY believe in....and that sound of yours will be an asset to whatever they are working on for their next release.

While very few people at any age actually achieve that time at the top, St. Louis native J-Kwon was a rare success. When he was just 17-years-old, he hit the top of the charts in 2004 with “Tipsy” from his debut album Hood Hop (So So Def/Arista).
